What Makes Healthy Living the Right Fit for First Responders
A Private, Intimate Setting 12 Beds, No Crowded Halls
One of the most common concerns we hear from first responders considering residential treatment is the fear of walking into a large facility full of strangers who don’t know your world or worse, having your presence there become common knowledge. At Healthy Living, that concern is addressed structurally. Our Santa Clarita facility has just 12 beds. This is not a sprawling institutional campus. It is a quiet, private residential setting nestled in the hills of the Santa Clarita Valley, where every client is known by name, every staff member is aware of your history and goals, and your presence here stays exactly where it belongs within these walls.
There are no crowded common areas, no anonymous group settings where you feel like a number. You are a person receiving individualized medical care from a team that sees you clearly and treats you accordingly.
Confidentiality Is Not Optional It Is Absolute
Under HIPAA, your enrollment in a treatment program is protected medical information. Your employer whether that is the LAPD, the LA County Fire Department, a hospital system, a corrections facility, or any other agency does not have the right to know the nature of your medical leave. Our staff is trained to the highest standard of patient confidentiality, and we take that responsibility seriously. Many of our clients are public-facing professionals who cannot afford to have their privacy compromised. It will never be here.
Medical Detox Led by Board-Certified Physicians
For first responders whose substance use has escalated to physical dependency whether on alcohol, opioids, prescription medications, or other drugs detox is the essential first step, and it must be done safely. At Healthy Living, detox is medically supervised around the clock by our physician-led team. Our doctors are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our Licensed Vocational Nurse administers medication twice daily as part of a comprehensive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocol. Withdrawal does not have to be dangerous or unnecessarily painful. We manage it with precision, experience, and genuine care for your physical wellbeing.
A Structured Daily Program Built Around Purpose
First responders are people who thrive with structure. You are trained to operate within clear schedules, defined roles, and purposeful routines. Our daily program at Healthy Living is exactly that: a full, intentional schedule from morning through evening that gives every hour meaning and direction.
Your day includes morning Daily Reflections to set intention, Medication Administration with our LVN, and clinical group programming throughout the day including Process Groups, Recovery Maintenance, Health in Recovery, Anger Management, Breathwork, Mindfulness, Yoga, Art Therapy, Psychoeducation, and more. Evening programming includes AA/NA Meetings and a nightly Wrap-Up session. Every day is full. Every day moves you forward. That rhythm is not accidental; it mirrors the structure you are already wired for, and channels it toward healing instead of survival.
FMLA, Leave of Absence & Union Benefit Navigation
We understand that for first responders, the question of job protection is not just financial; it is tied to your identity, your benefits, and in many cases your pension and certification. Our admissions team is experienced in helping clients from law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services, and healthcare navigate the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California State Disability Insurance (SDI), and employer-specific leave policies. For union members, we can help you understand what protections your contract affords and how to engage your union’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as part of your leave process.
You should not have to choose between getting better and protecting your career. With the right planning, you do not have to.
Technology Access After Day Five
We know that for active-duty and on-leave first responders, complete disconnection from work obligations can feel impossible. After the first five days of medical detox and stabilization, clients at Healthy Living have access to personal technology phones and devices during designated free time. This allows you to stay connected to your department, your union representative, or your family without compromising the clinical integrity of your recovery process.
