Things To Bring

Pack Light. Come Ready. Everything Else Is Here.

Packing for residential treatment might feel like one more overwhelming thing to figure out at an already overwhelming moment. We want to take that stress off your plate completely. This page tells you exactly what to bring, what to leave behind, and what we already have covered for you so that when you walk through our doors, your only job is to be present and ready to begin.

At Healthy Living Residential Program, our 12-bed residential facility in Santa Clarita is designed to feel like a home, not a hospital. You will have your own space, access to laundry, and everything you need to be comfortable throughout your 30-day stay. We provide essential toiletries, all bedding and towels, and three chef-prepared meals daily so you truly do not need to pack much to arrive ready. And if you run low on anything during your stay, you are welcome to make a store run with staff or have items shipped directly to our facility. The goal is simple: travel light, arrive present, and let us handle the rest.

If you have any questions about specific items not covered on this page, our admissions team is available 24 hours a day at (661) 536-5562 call before you pack and we will give you a straight answer.

Required Documents Bring These First

These are non-negotiable items needed at intake. Have them organized and easy to access when you arrive.

Photo ID. A valid, government-issued photo identification is required for admission. This can be a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.

Insurance Card(s). Bring your primary insurance card and, if applicable, any secondary coverage. If you have already spoken with our admissions team and your benefits have been pre-verified, bring the card anyway, it speeds up the paperwork at intake.

Pharmacy / Prescription Insurance Card. If you have a separate prescription drug coverage card, bring that as well. This helps our clinical team and Licensed Vocational Nurse manage your medications efficiently from day one.

Prescription Medications in Original Labeled Bottles. This is critical. Every prescription medication you currently take must arrive in its original pharmacy-labeled container with your name, the prescribing doctor’s name, the medication name, dosage, and instructions clearly printed on the label. Medications not in their original containers cannot be accepted or administered. Our LVN will review and store all medications at intake, and they will be administered on schedule throughout your stay. Prepare a written list of all your current medications, prescription and over-the-counter, including dosage and frequency. Bring enough supply to cover your full 30-day stay plus a few extra days as a buffer.

Emergency Contact Information. Write down the full name, relationship, and phone number for at least one emergency contact. Do not rely on your phone alone, have this written on paper.

Clothing: Comfortable, Practical, Weather-Ready

Santa Clarita, California enjoys warm, sunny weather for most of the year, though mornings and evenings can be cool. Pack with layers in mind. Since we have laundry facilities on-site and you can pick up additional items at a nearby store or have them shipped to our facility during your stay, there is absolutely no need to overpack. A 5 to 7-day rotation of clothing is more than enough.

What to Pack: comfortable everyday clothing (t-shirts, casual pants, jeans, shorts, loungewear); layering pieces such as a light jacket, hoodie, or cardigan for cooler mornings and evenings; activewear including yoga pants, athletic shorts, and comfortable workout clothing for yoga, breathwork, and movement sessions; comfortable, supportive walking or athletic shoes; sandals or flip flops for casual wear and shower use; pajamas or comfortable sleepwear; undergarments and socks (7 to 10 days’ worth).

Clothing Guidelines: All clothing should be modest, clean, and appropriate for a group therapy setting. Please do not bring clothing that features drug or alcohol references, offensive graphics, profanity, or imagery that may be triggering or disrespectful to others in the program. Revealing or suggestive clothing is not permitted. When in doubt, pack conservatively, you can always pick up additional items at a local store during your stay or have clothes shipped directly to our facility by family or friends.

Personal Hygiene & Toiletries

Good news: we provide essential toiletries for all clients, so you do not need to stress about packing a 30-day supply of personal care products before you arrive. Our facility stocks the basics to get you started and keep you comfortable from day one.

That said, we know that personal care is personal. If you have preferred brands, specific skincare routines, or products you rely on daily, you are absolutely welcome to bring your own or have them ordered and shipped to our facility once you are settled in. Clients also have the opportunity to make store runs for personal care items during their stay, so running out of something is never a problem.

If you do choose to bring toiletries from home, all products must arrive factory-sealed and unopened. Our clinical team inspects products during intake as a standard safety protocol to ensure no prohibited substances enter the facility unintentionally.

Optional personal toiletries you may want to bring or have shipped: your preferred shampoo, conditioner, and body wash; preferred face wash, moisturizer, or skincare products; deodorant (stick or roll-on, no aerosol spray); shaving cream and razor (disposable razors are permitted, contact admissions regarding electric razors); hair ties, brushes, or styling tools; feminine hygiene products (if applicable); sunscreen, recommended for Santa Clarita’s sunny outdoor activities.

Toiletry Rules Please Review:

No alcohol-containing products. This includes mouthwash with alcohol, cologne, perfume, aftershave, and any antiseptic product that lists alcohol as an ingredient. Alcohol-free mouthwash is permitted.

No aerosol products of any kind, including hairspray and aerosol deodorant.

Any products brought from home must be in their original, sealed, factory packaging. If you have a prescription topical or medical skincare product you use regularly, contact our admissions team before arrival and we will advise you on how to bring it in properly.

Personal Comfort Items

Recovery is both hard work and daily living, and the small things that make a space feel like yours matter. Within our facility guidelines, you are welcome to bring items that support your comfort, creativity, and emotional wellbeing.

Journal and pens. Highly encouraged. Writing is one of the most valuable tools in early recovery, and many of our clients find that journaling alongside daily group sessions becomes an essential part of their process.

Books. Bring reading material that supports your recovery or simply brings you joy. Recovery literature, spiritual texts, fiction, or any subject you love is welcome. Please avoid content that glorifies substance use, contains explicit material, or may be triggering to others.

Photos of loved ones. Printed photographs of family, friends, or anyone who grounds you are welcome and encouraged. These small reminders of what you are working toward are powerful.

Stamps, envelopes, and stationery. Many clients find letter-writing to be a meaningful and grounding practice, especially in the early weeks of treatment.

Music device. Music is a genuinely powerful tool in recovery. Once personal devices are available after day five, you will have access to your phone or tablet for music. If you prefer a dedicated offline device, just check with our admissions team about what works best within our guidelines.

Small pillow or blanket from home. If having a familiar item from home would bring comfort, you are welcome to bring one.

Sketchpad or art supplies. Our program includes Art Therapy sessions, and personal creative supplies are welcome if you enjoy drawing, sketching, or other visual work.

Electronics & Technology

Healthy Living’s technology policy reflects our commitment to helping clients stabilize in the early days of detox while allowing reasonable connectivity during the residential phase of treatment.

Personal devices including cell phones and tablets are available to clients beginning on day five of their stay, during designated free time windows. This policy was designed with our working and employed clients in mind, and reflects our belief that recovery and real-world responsibilities are not mutually exclusive.

During the first four days of medical detox, devices are held by staff to allow for complete rest and clinical focus. This is the period when your body is working hardest, and our physician-led team needs your full cooperation and presence.

Laptops for work purposes may be available after day five on a case-by-case basis. Speak with our admissions team before arrival if ongoing work obligations require device access, so we can plan appropriately.

What NOT to Bring

The following items are not permitted at Healthy Living and will be collected at intake. Please review this list carefully before packing to avoid confusion or delays on your arrival day.

Any alcohol or illegal substances. No exceptions. Any prohibited substances discovered at intake will be disposed of and may affect your admissions eligibility.

Drug paraphernalia of any kind.

Weapons of any kind, including pocket knives, multi-tools, or any item with a blade.

Aerosol sprays, hairspray, aerosol deodorant, aerosol sunscreen.

Alcohol-containing toiletries, mouthwash with alcohol, perfume, cologne, aftershave.

Prescription medications not in original labeled containers.

Medications that belong to someone else.

Expensive jewelry or valuables. Healthy Living is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items. Leave fine jewelry, expensive watches, and irreplaceable items at home.

Clothing with drug or alcohol references, offensive language, or explicit imagery.

What We Provide

You do not need to arrive fully stocked. We provide all bedding, towels, pillows, and essential toiletries. Our in-house chef prepares three nutritious meals daily, so no food or kitchen supplies are needed. Basic over-the-counter medications ordered by our physician are supplied through our clinical team. And if you need anything during your stay, personal care products, additional clothing, or anything else, our team can help coordinate a store trip or you can have items shipped directly to the facility. You focus on getting here. We genuinely handle the rest.

Our admissions team is available around the clock and happy to answer any specific questions about what to bring, what to ship ahead, or what might be waiting for you here.
